Therapy


I believe that therapy is a time for clients to discover how they might be more free and authentic in themselves and in their lives. It is a safe place in which to explore the inner terrain of the heart and mind, and increase emotional and personal resiliency.  

Sessions might involve us having conversations about your life and feelings, and sometimes they might involve you paying close attention to what is showing up in your body and thus exploring your intuition and truth that way. I believe that every person has the answers they need inside themselves, and so part of therapy involves practicing how to notice and listen to what is happening inside. This inner information can be used to help each client guide their lives in a way that is more in alignment with their own values and goals. Each session is tailored to what is most comfortable and useful to a client, and I welcome feedback about what does and doesn't work. 

I am trained in several different kinds of therapy and I tend to use what seems most helpful and resonant for the client and the situation. These therapy modalities include Internal Family Systems, Attachment-Based, Somatic-Informed, Expressive Arts, Transpersonal, Psychodynamic, Person-Centered, and Cognitive Behavioral.

I encourage clients to engage in their healing work between sessions by doing self care, journaling, making art or music, writing down their dreams, and creating healthy habits. Your therapy might also include a review of how your diet and lifestyle could be influencing your emotional state, since current research shows a strong relationship between mental health and physical health, via the "gut-brain axis." The body, mind and spirit are all very much connected in our psychological well-being, and I tend to use a holistic lens when working with clients.
 
I am not trained in the kinds of therapies that best help Borderline Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, or Domestic Violence issues, and I will provide a referral in these instances.
